PROBLEM SPACE: Complex Websites + Information

PROBLEM SPACE: Complex Websites + Information

This project was the final assignment for a Content Strategy class taught by Dr. Allegra Smith. Our group partnered with Sharmaine Brown, founder of Jared’s Heart of Success, to address the challenge of simplifying and streamlining the organization’s online presence. The existing website and social media were difficult for the founder to manage and lacked user-friendly design, making it hard for audiences to engage effectively. Our goal was to create a more manageable system and straightforward brand kit that aligned with the organization’s mission to improve both internal workflows and external user experience.

INSIGHTS:

INSIGHTS:

Through research and conversations with Sharmaine, we identified 3 key challenges & needs:

  1. The founder needed a simpler, more centralized system to manage updates independently.

  2. The audience needed clearer navigation and streamlined communication to understand how to get involved.

  3. The brand voice and visuals lacked consistency, creating mixed messaging across platforms.

INDEPENDENT MANAGEMENT

=

need to simplify content production & minimize spaces for future changes

CLEARER NAVIGATION

=

must streamline options; make layout easily accessible for viewers

CONSISTENT BRANDING

=

requires a coherent brand identity to help align messaging

APPROACH:

APPROACH:

By reviewing the website, social media, and printed information pamphlet, I organized the existing content into four main categories: mission & values, audience & relationships, brand image, and the organization’s programs. This information served as a guide when creating the brand and media kits.

MISSION & VALUES

  1. Inspire and empower youth through education

  2. Create safer communities and foster a welcoming and compassionate atmosphere

  3. Reinforce hope, resilience, and the belief that together we can make a difference

AUDIENCE & RELATIONSHIPS

  1. PRIMARY AUDIENCE: Young Adults

  2. With Jared’s Heart of Success, they feel supported, loved, and inspired. They believe that they have the power to change their community

  3. GOAL: Educate & Provide Supportive Opportunities

  4. RELATIONSHIP: Valued Partner & Mutual Advocate

BRAND IMAGE

  1. Purpose Driven, empathetic, conversational, & inclusive

  2. Gun Violence Awareness orange

  3. Jared Brown

  4. Boy with the heart in the logo

PROGRAMS & EVENTS

  1. Youth Advisory Board

  2. Scholarships

  3. Advocacy News Appearances

  4. Mentoring & Training

  5. Seasonal Events (Jared's Birthday, Anniversaries)

SOLUTION:

SOLUTION:

I created a brand kit that unified the organization’s mission, visuals, and messaging into a clear, practical guide for future communications and outreach. This guide was revised and edited by our team before utilizing it to create an Instagram Media Template Pack and consolidate the website.

RESULTS:

RESULTS:

The new media pack provided the organization with ready-to-use, on-brand social media templates and guidelines on a requested platform (Canva), making it easier to post consistent, engaging content. The updated website design improved navigation, clarified key messages, and created a more user-friendly experience, helping visitors better understand the organization’s mission and how to get involved.
